Grell's Sebastian Doll

This is a late Christmas present for It's Grell’s Sebastian doll! I hope you like him.

He turned out to be much more of a task than I anticipated. I used white cotton fabric that I dyed brown with coffee.(It took 2 days!) The color’s rather inconsistent but I think it worked out okay considering he's supposed to look old. Then I machine stitched all the pieces together and stuffed them before using embroidery floss to hand stitch around all the seams to make it look like he was stitched with that, then I attached his limbs using the same floss. I was using two reference pics one had a gimpy leg while the other had a gimpy arm so I combined them. His hair is made of yarn, I tried to style it but that didn’t go so well. Last was to sew the blobs of polyfil onto him since he’s supposed to be falling apart, that was so difficult. Polyfil does not like to be stitched.

The hardest part for me was making it look bad. I mean he’s supposed to look old, tattered, badly stitched and falling apart and that’s just not how I like my things to look!
All in all I’m happy with how he turned out, though if I were to do it again(which I really don’t want to) there’s a lot I’d change.
